The Cameron Art Museum's Battle of Forks Road Interpretive Project explores the little-known story of the United States Colored Troops (USCT) and the Battle of Forks Road, as well as the impact the USCT victory had on the Cape Fear region and its future. By harnessing the power of personal narratives of those directly involved, the project helps the public see how their lives are tied to past events and foster a deeper understanding of the present. This short film details the story of the Battl;e of Forks Road, which took place on the grounds of the Cameron Art Museum. It features interviews with Chris Fonvielle, leading historian on the Battle of Forks Road; Phillip Gerard, professor in the MFA Creative Writing at UNC Wilmington and author of a 4-year series of articles on the Civil War for Our State magazine; and and Malcolm Beech, president and educational director of the Cultural Heritage Museum in Kinston, NC and president of the USCT Living History Association, among others.
