Jim Preston
Jim Preston has practiced law for over 40 years with the firm Parker, Poe, Adams & Bernstein L.L.P. in Charlotte with an emphasis in tax, benefits, executive compensation, charitable organizations, estate and insurance planning. Preston is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with an A.B. in English, Phi Beta Kappa, and a J.D. with High Honors, Order of the Coif, and Editor-in-Chief of the North Carolina Law Review. During his career, he has earned a reputation of distinction in the areas of law, business, social services, art, and race relations. He is a member of the American Bar Association, having served in the House of Delegates, Select Committee of the House, the Standing Committee on Specialization, and both the National Conference and Southern Conference of Bar Presidents. In the North Carolina State Bar, Preston served as Councilor and President. Preston is a Fellow in the American Bar Foundation and a member of the American Law Institute. He served as President and Director of the Charlotte Area Fund, the Community School of the Arts, and the Charlotte Arts & Science Council. Preston also volunteered with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee and served as Director and Vice Chairman of the North Carolina Dance Theatre. He was Director of the National Conference for Community and Justice and the Foundation for the Arts and Science. He serves on several corporate and philanthropic boards and is the recipient of numerous awards, including a scholarship fund named in his honor by the NCCJ.
