Betty N. Smith, M.Ed.

Award-winning author, performer

Betty Smith (M.Ed. Georgia State University) has performed, taught, and shared the music of the South for over forty years. Her book Jane Hicks Gentry: A Singer Among Singers was awarded the Willie Parker Peace Award, and her one-woman play A Mountain Riddle won the Paul Green Award given by the North Carolina Society of Historians. She is the recipient of the Brown Hudson Award, the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Award, and Outstanding Contributions to Appalachian Literature Award.
