David LaVere, Ph.D.

Dr. LaVere is a professor of history at UNC Wilmington where he teaches classes in US and American Indian History. He is a regular writer for Our State magazine and is the author of numerous articles for historical journals, as well as five books: Looting Spiro Mounds: An American in King Tut’s Tomb, published by the University of Oklahoma Press in 2007, The Texas Indians, published by the Texas A&M University Press in 2004, Contrary Neighbors: The Southern Plains and the Removed Indians in Indian Territory, published in 2000 by the University of Oklahoma Press, The Caddo Chiefdoms: Caddo Politics and Economics, published by the University of Nebraska Press in 1998 and the 1988 Life Among the Texas Indians: The WPA Narratives, published by the Texas A&M University Press. Dr. LaVere received his doctorate from Texas A&M University.
