Douglas Butler, M.D.
Indian health physician, adventure traveler, author
Douglas Butler holds a bachelor’s degree from Miami University (Ohio) and a doctorate in medicine from Ohio State University. He is an emergency and family medicine physician who has spent much of his career caring for underserved populations and currently works with Project USA and the Indian Health Service. Dr. Butler has traveled widely throughout the developing world climbing, photographing and visiting native cultures on five continents. His photos and writings have appeared nationally, and he has published Ashe County—Discovering the Lost Province, a guidebook to his home county. His newest book, A Walk Atop America—50 State Summits and a Dream to Reach Them All, a chronicle of the people, scenery and experiences Dr. Butler encountered on his journey to each of the state’s highest geographical points, was published in September 2007.
