Jim Lutzweiler

James Lutzweiler is an American historian with a focus on American Religious fundamentalism and Texas Baptist history. In 1968 he earned a B.A. in Bible and Biblical Languages from Pillsbury College in Owatonna, Minnesota. In 1972 he earned a Master of Divinity with a concentration in church history from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1997 Lutzweiler earned an M.A. in American History from North Carolina State University. He has taught American history at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, North Carolina; and from 1999-2013 he served as the Chief Archivist at the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina.

Lutzweiler’s essays and encyclopedia entries have been published by The University of North Texas Press, The University of North Carolina Press, The Texas Historical Association, and Broadman and Holman Publishing Group. He is also the author of a forthcoming chapter entitled “North Carolina Baptists” to be published in 2016 by the North Caroliniana Society.
