John Sullivan, Ph.D.

Powell Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Elon University

Dr. John G. Sullivan, a native of Newport, Rhode Island, is Powell Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Elon University, where he taught for 36 years, retiring in 2006. He is Elon’s first Distinguished University Professor and a winner of Elon’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. John is also a faculty member at Tai Sophia Institute in Laurel, MD, where he was principal designer of their innovative MA program in Transformative Leadership. He is author of four books: The Fourfold Path to Wholeness: A Compass for the Heart -- Cultivating love, compassion, joy and peace for all our kin (2010); The Spiral of the Seasons: Welcoming the Gifts of Later Life (2009). Living Large: Transformative Work at the Intersection of Ethics and Spirituality (2004); and To Come to Life More Fully: An East West Journey (1990). He has given presentations and workshops across NC, throughout the US, and in Europe. His abiding interest is the place where philosophy, psychology, and spirituality—East, West and beyond—intersect and mutually enhance one another.
