The New Road: I-26 and the Footprints of Progress
Interstate highways cause more dislocation among people, wildlife, the environment, and culture than any other modern force. By closely documenting the construction of one eight-mile section of Interstate 26 as it cuts through rural Madison County, NC, Mr. Amberg examines the effect this project has had on this mountain community. The presentation includes slides, oral history and narrative, and draws comparisons with other parts of the country where similar projects have occurred.
