Omar Ali, Ph.D.
Historian, Carnegie Foundation Professor of the Year, Dean of the Honors College at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro
Omar H. Ali is an award-winning historian of the African Diaspora, Islam, and independent political movements. A graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science, he received his Ph.D. in History from Columbia University. Of Peruvian and East Indian background, he brings a broad, inclusive perspective to his lectures and presentations. He has been a Fulbright professor of history and anthropology at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, a visiting professor at Vanderbilt University, and a Library Scholar at Harvard University. He was named the 2016 Carnegie Foundation North Carolina Professor of the Year.
