Scoundrels, Rogues and Heroes of the Old North State

Scoundrels, Rogues and Heroes of the Old North State

Entertaining stories abound about the heroes and the ne’er-do-wells, all of whom make Tar Heel history so colorful. All the stories shared in this presentation come from the book Scoundrels, Rogues, and Heroes of the Old North State by Dr. H.G. Jones, edited by Randell Jones. The tales span four hundred years of North Carolina history, across the Golden Age of Pirates, the Colonial period, the American Revolution, the Antebellum years, the Civil War, Reconstruction, Prohibition, the early twentieth century, and every era in between. They include stories of characters from the high seas, the coast, “down east,” the mountains, the Piedmont, the Sandhills—every part of our state. Story collection editor and storyteller Randell Jones selects some tales to share based on the location and interests of the audience; but, he also includes remarkable tales from all across the state. Storytelling carries the presentation. Photos and maps are displayed for individual browsing.
