S. Kill Devil Hills, NC Travel Regions: 9-13 Specializing in oceanography, Jim Bunch earned degrees in Marine Biology from the University of Miami and from Old Dominion Institute of Oceanography. He worked as an oceanographer for the federal government for many years. An active scuba instructor for 20 years, he has certified hundreds of divers interested in visiting North Carolina shipwrecks. He received the Scuba Schools International Pro5000 award in 1994 for making 5000 dives. He is the author of two books Diving the U-85 and U-85 Shadow in the Sea, A DiverŐs Reflections. |
Germany's U-85: A Shadow in the Sea
U-85 was the first German U-boat sunk by the United States Navy after America's entry into WWII. This presentation is a PowerPoint show which includes an insight into the U-85's developmental history, its crew, its war cruises, and its sinking by the American boat Roper. Mr. Bunch gives a history of diving the wreck and recoveries made from the wreck. History buffs and diving enthusiasts will be especially interested in Jim Bunch's presentation.
