The Heart Has Reasons: Dutch People Who Rescued Jewish Children During the Holocaust
Several years ago, Mark Klempner, a first generation Jewish-American trying to come to terms with his family history, sought out some of the last surviving rescuers of Jewish children during the Nazi occupation of Holland. In this presentation, Mr. Klempner describes his encounters with the rescuers and shares some of the stories and wisdom they entrusted to him. Audio excerpts from the interviews allow the audience to hear the rescuers, in their own words, reflect on their lives and deeds. What emerges is a collective portrait of these individuals that serves as both a window to the past and vision for the future. Their stories resonate across generations and have a relevance for the increasingly polarized world of today where extreme and violent ideologies threaten to destroy a spirit of understanding, respect, and tolerance between diverse people.
