Iraq 101
Iraq was been an important location long before the current war brought it to the forefront of America's consciousness. Iraq 101 will first trace the history of Iraq from earliest days, through the creation of Baghdad as the capital of the growing Muslim empire, to its peripheral role in the Ottoman Empire, and its independence from Great Britain following World War I. Shields will then explore the context in which the current conflict emerged, focusing on the decades of US interactions with Iraq.
