Melanie Moore Richeson is the Development Associate at the North Carolina Humanities Council. Since joining the Council in February 2017, Melanie has made her way across the state and beyond to advocate for the public humanities in North Carolina. In talking with members of Congress, community leaders and North Carolina citizens alike, Melanie understands the critical role the humanities play in bringing people together to discover their shared human experiences. In her work, Melanie actively communicates with patrons and constituents about Council on goings and support opportunities in order to continue keeping North Carolina Humanities Council programs accessible to all.

Prior to working at the Council, Melanie was the Account Coordinator at a boutique public relations firm in Washington DC and the Marketing Coordinator at a large real estate firm. In the summer of 2013 Melanie also served an as intern in the Development Department at the prestigious Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in her hometown of Richmond, Virginia.

Melanie’s enthusiasm for the public humanities stems from her desire to share her own passions of inclusive conversation and history with North Carolinians. Melanie began studying the power of the humanities as a high school student admitted to the Humanities Center at Monacan High School in Richmond, Virginia. She continued her education by attending George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, graduating with two Bachelor of Arts degrees in 2014; Art History and Communication.
